Arrest Made After Swiss Rave Shooting Kills Italian Tourist

A 43‑year‑old Swiss man has been apprehended following a shooting at a techno rave near the Schachen horse‑race track in Aarau. The incident left 22‑year‑old Italian tourist Maria Spinelli dead and wounded five other attendees.

Police first received a report of shots at around 02:30 local time on Sunday. The shooting sparked a nearly 24‑hour manhunt, culminating in the suspect’s arrest just before 01:00 on Monday.

Authorities say the perpetrator acted alone and are investigating the motives. Italian officials have expressed confidence that Swiss authorities will identify the responsible individual.

Switzerland’s high gun‑ownership rates have not led to frequent violent shootings. The last major incident occurred in 2001 when a gunman killed fourteen members of the Zug parliament before taking his life.
