Army Rescue Operation Saves Dozens Trapped in Nepali Hydropower Tunnel

After a devastating flood struck Rasuwa District, army soldiers worked tirelessly to extricate more than one hundred people trapped in a hydropower tunnel.

Video footage from the Prime Minister’s office shows soldiers crawling through thick mud, carrying survivors, and shoring up the tunnel’s damaged sections. The operation, conducted under harsh weather conditions, highlights the military’s rapid response capability in the aftermath of natural disasters.

A government statement issued Thursday estimated that the tunnel may have held over 100 people, many of whom were trapped for hours before rescue teams gained access.

The rescue effort is part of a nationwide campaign to recover flood victims, following reports that the death toll across Nepal has risen to 475.
