In brief
On Wednesday, a bomb exploded on a school bus in Balochistan, Pakistan, killing four students and two adults. The attack, carried out by alleged militant groups, highlights the ongoing violence and instability in the region.
At least six people, including four young students, lost their lives when a bomb exploded on a school bus in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan Province early Wednesday morning. This incident marks yet another episode of violence in a region historically fraught with separatist insurgency and militant activity.Sarfraz Bugti, Chief Minister of Balochistan, confirmed during a press conference that the fatalities included the bus driver and a helper, with several other individuals sustaining injuries. “Forty-six students were on board the bus when it was targeted with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device,” Bugti noted. He pointed out that militant factions have increasingly been directing their attacks at vulnerable targets, including children, over recent months. The bombing occurred in Khuzdar district, approximately 180 miles south of Quetta, Balochistan's provincial capital, along a major highway that connects the city to Karachi, the capital of Sindh Province. The bus was en route to a military-operated school located within a high-security cantonment area, north of the busy thoroughfare.Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, which adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the region. Community leaders and parents have expressed deep concern regarding the safety of children in the area and are calling for enhanced security measures.
