According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Gibbon, hailing from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, is accused of forcefully holding his 33-year-old daughter-in-law under the water multiple times, obstructing her ability to breathe. He faces severe charges including attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery.

Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the importance of maintaining good behavior while visiting Florida, saying, "It's great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same." He further noted that Gibbon's inability to manage his anger could result in a longer stay in Florida than he originally planned.

The disturbing scene escalated to a point where a young girl jumped into the pool in a courageous effort to save her mother. Witnesses, including two neighboring sisters, reported the incident to authorities, prompting an immediate arrest. Gibbon is currently being held at Polk County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
