A paragliding mishap in Gansu province leaves a pilot in shock after soaring dangerously high, leading to a six-month ban from the sport.

A paraglider's risky ascent to nearly 28,200 feet has drawn attention and concern across China. On Saturday, Peng Yujiang, a 55-year-old from Gansu, was testing equipment when he unexpectedly soared to almost 8,600 meters. This perilous flight, captured on his camera, revealed him battling extreme conditions with frost covering his body and face.

The adventure turned deadly when Mr. Peng was initially at a safer height of around 3,000 meters for ground handling training but was swiftly lifted by a powerful wind, rendering him unable to control his descent and sending him high above the clouds. In a recorded video following his return, he recounted his distressing experience of oxygen deprivation and freezing extremities as he attempted to communicate via radio during the frightening flight.

In light of safety concerns and this extraordinary incident, the local sporting authority has imposed a six-month ban on Mr. Peng, aiming to ensure the safety of paragliding enthusiasts in the region.
