Authorities in New Mexico are delving into the mysterious deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his spouse, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, whose bodies were discovered at their residence in Santa Fe. The investigation follows a maintenance worker's alarming 911 call, where he reported finding the couple lifeless alongside one of their dogs.
Hackman, aged 95, was located in a side room by the kitchen, while Arakawa, 65, was found in the bathroom, suggesting they had been deceased for some time. Sheriff Adan Mendoza noted that signs of decomposition were evident, especially in Arakawa's remains, which displayed characteristics of both decomposition and mummification. Additionally, their German Shepherd dog was also found dead nearby.
Although no immediate cause of death was disclosed, the authorities deemed the circumstances suspicious as they discovered the front door of the property open without signs of forced entry or struggle inside. The presence of a portable heater near Arakawa's head raised questions, leading detectives to consider the possibility of gas poisoning. Ongoing tests for carbon monoxide and toxicology are anticipated as the investigation progresses. Furthermore, a prescription bottle was found near Arakawa's body.
Friends and associates of the couple, including Hackman's daughter, expressed their disbelief and concern. Leslie Anne Hackman reassured that her father had been in excellent health, actively participating in yoga and Pilates. The couple's loving relationship, which has lasted since their marriage in 1991, drew admiration from family and fans alike.
As local authorities continue to investigate this tragic situation, the focus remains on uncovering the truths behind Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's untimely deaths.
