Police confirm a 17-year-old girl was the fatal victim of a sword attack at Brinell School in Fagersta on Friday afternoon.

Two other students, aged 12 and 17, were seriously injured, while a third sustained minor wounds. An unnamed 18-year-old man, a former pupil, was arrested; authorities are treating the matter as murder and attempted murder.

The incident occurred as students had just returned from summer break. Officers on the scene fired shots but it is unclear whether the suspect was struck before detainment.
