In brief
Teenagers in Britain face increased threats from sadistic online gangs, as identified by the National Crime Agency, which has seen a significant rise in reported incidents.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom has issued a grave warning regarding the heightened danger facing teenagers due to online groups engaging in sadistic and misogynistic behavior. In their latest annual crime trends assessment, authorities reported a staggering sixfold increase in documented incidents linked to these groups from 2022 to 2024. They highlighted that many young individuals are being lured into these networks, which often lead to coerced sexual abuse, self-harm, or acts of violence.Graeme Biggar, the director general of the NCA, emphasized the alarming nature of these groups, stating, “These entities are not hidden in the dark web; rather, they operate in the same accessible online spaces that young people frequent daily.” This issue is particularly concerning for young girls, who are increasingly being groomed into self-harming actions, with some being urged to contemplate suicide. The NCA's National Strategic Assessment for 2024 draws attention to the fact that, while adults engage with these communities, teenage boys frequently propagate sadistic and misogynistic content, targeting girls as young as 11. The agency continues to advocate for awareness and preventive measures to safeguard vulnerable youths from these treacherous online environments.
