Russian defence officials announced on the morning of November 7, 2026 that their forces had launched a large-scale overnight attack on Ukrainian targets in and around the capital city of Kyiv. The ministry claimed strikes hit military‑industrial, energy and transport infrastructure, including a major bridge and a missile production site.
The reports detail that the “Northern Bridge,” which Russian officials say the Ukrainian army uses to move weapons and supplies, was struck during the assault. Alongside the bridge, the ministry identified the Meridian missile plant – a facility Russia alleges produces Flamingo cruise missiles – as a target that suffered damage.
Other facilities reportedly hit include a Kyiv‑region power plant, an electricity substation and a munitions‑manufacturing site, all described by the ministry as part of the Ukrainian military‑industrial sector. In addition, an electricity substation in the Zhytomyr region is said to have sustained damage from the attack.
The ministry also said that a cargo vessel in the Black Sea, which it claims was carrying military equipment and dual‑use goods to Ukraine, was struck in the earlier wave of ballistic missile fire. The ship reportedly took damage but remained afloat.
Mayor Vitali of Kyiv, citing eyewitness accounts, described the scene as “explosions rocked the city as Russia fired multiple waves of ballistic missiles, several of them hitting the Northern Bridge.”
Ukrainian defence agencies and local authorities have not yet released a formal statement on the incident. Some officials have expressed concern about the potential disruption to civilian infrastructure, while others have urged caution pending confirmation of the damages reported by Russian officials.
The event comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with both sides accusing each other of provocative moves. If the Russian claims hold, the blows to Kyiv’s transport and energy grids could hamper Ukrainian military logistics and civilian power supply. Ukrainian officials emphasize the need for verification of the extent of the damage as the situation develops.
