In brief

In a tragic incident on Monday, South Korean police announced they are in search of a man believed to have deliberately ignited a fire in a southern Seoul apartment, resulting in one death and 11 injuries, with two individuals sustaining severe injuries. The blaze erupted around 8:17 a.m. at a residential high-rise in the Bongcheon district, as firefighters battled thick smoke that engulfed the building's fourth floor. The fire was put out after approximately an hour, but the aftermath was devastating; one person was discovered deceased due to burns, while two elderly women plunged from the fourth floor during the chaos. Several other residents experienced smoke inhalation issues. Witnesses reported that a man in his 60s used a pesticide sprayer filled with flammable substance to start the fire, leading to an active investigation by local authorities in Gwanak borough.
