Former Nigerian President Buhari's Remains to Return Home for Burial
The late Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's ex-leader, will be returned to his birthplace for a simple Islamic burial following his passing at 82.
Muhammadu Buhari, the former President of Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 82 in a London clinic. His body is currently being transported back to his hometown in Katsina state for burial. Governor Dikko Radda, who is accompanying the family in London, confirmed that the burial will take place in Daura town, located about 50 miles from Katsina city. Vice-President Kashim Shettima is also in London to ensure the remains are returned to Nigeria. Radda stated, "The plan is to leave in the morning," following a brief illness that Buhari had been suffering from for years. Despite his position, there will be no state funeral due to the adherence to Islamic practices, with the cleric Abdullahi Garangamawa emphasizing the need for a prompt burial. Tributes have poured in from various leaders, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and General Ibrahim Babangida, recognizing Buhari's patriotism and moral influence. Current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a seven-day national mourning period and ordered national flags to be lowered in tribute to Buhari.
