The city of Amsterdam has seen significant unrest as police report the arrest of four individuals linked to violent antisemitic incidents directed at Israeli soccer fans. This turmoil erupted in conjunction with a soccer match held between Ajax, a recognized Dutch team, and Maccabi Tel Aviv, representing Israel.Originally, over 60 individuals were taken into custody as tensions ensued surrounding the event, occurring between Thursday and Friday of the past week. The confrontation began on Thursday, with Israeli fans reportedly chanting provocative slogans while being escorted by police towards the venue to maintain order amid escalating anger related to the ongoing Gaza conflict.Footage from the incident displayed fans chanting inflammatory phrases, which included: “Why is there no school in Gaza? There are no children left there.” To manage the situation at the stadium, riot police and mounted officers were deployed to ensure the safety of both Israeli fans and pro-Palestinian activists.Of the initial group of 62 apprehended, the majority were released shortly after the disturbances; however, four remain in custody as suspects of public violence. A police spokeswoman, Marijke Stor, confirmed that one of the detained is a 26-year-old male whose involvement was identified through CCTV.Ms. Stor added, “Despite the release of some individuals, it does not disqualify them as suspects,” implying that further investigations and arrests may still occur. As of now, no charges have been filed against the detained suspects, marking an ongoing inquiry into the incidents.
