Carolyne Odour has told the BBC she desperately fears for the fate of her two young sons who went missing two months ago with their father - a follower of the teachings of a notorious starvation cult leader.

Ms. Odour says she identified her husband's body at a mortuary in Malindi after his corpse was found near the Shakahola Forest, where more than 400 bodies were uncovered earlier this year in a cult-related mass death case. Now she awaits the results of DNA tests being conducted on over 30 recently discovered remains linked to this tragedy.

I felt pain. I barely recognised him. His body was badly decomposing, she described after recognizing Samuel Owino Owoyo's body. She suspects that her two sons, 12-year-old Daniel and nine-year-old Elijah, traveled with him to Kwa Binzaro at the end of June, following the cult's teachings.

Self-proclaimed pastor Paul Mackenzie is standing trial for his alleged role in the Shakahola Forest Massacre, where followers were led to believe that starvation would expedite their journey to Heaven. His influence had created a rift in Carolyne's marriage, leading her to fear for her children's safety.

The ongoing investigation has led to 11 arrests and revelations that bodies were being exhumed from the forest, intensifying the search for more victims. Amid her agonizing wait, Carolyne laments every moment she does not know the fate of her sons, fearing for their safety and well-being amidst the findings of a hidden horror within this cult.
