In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across India, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, renowned as one of the nation's biggest cinematic figures, was stabbed at his Mumbai residence last week. Following this brazen attack, local police have apprehended a key suspect, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, originally from Bangladesh but reportedly in India illegally. Khan, after undergoing surgery, is presently on the mend.
The police's announcement on Sunday revealed that Shehzad was apprehended in Thane, a suburb of Mumbai. His defense counsel has vehemently contested the claims, asserting that Shehzad's nationality is uncertain. Deputy Commissioner Dixit Gedam informed reporters that Shehzad allegedly infiltrated Khan's home with intentions of robbery. Upon investigation, it was determined that he had been residing in Mumbai for the past six months, utilizing a false identity while employed at a housekeeping agency.
Khan's attack ignited national conversations regarding safety protocols for high-profile personalities in a city notorious for its dense population. Reports indicate that the actor sustained six stab wounds, with severe injuries recorded on his neck. According to Eliyama Philip, a nurse who works at the actor’s home, she observed a shadow lurking near a bathroom late at night. The intruder, armed with both a wooden object and a long knife, demanded a ransom of 10 million rupees (approximately $115,477).
A tussle ensued, which resulted in injuries to the nurse and ultimately allowed Khan and his wife to intervene. In the resulting chaos, the assailant struck Khan before fleeing the scene. Recently, investigators detained several individuals for questioning, closely resembling the assailant identified on CCTV footage, although they were later released.
