The Lithuanian Army is currently coordinating an extensive search for four U.S. soldiers who have been missing for two days near the border with Belarus. The soldiers, part of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were reported missing on Tuesday afternoon while conducting routine tactical training exercises in Pabrade, eastern Lithuania.

The U.S. Army has confirmed that the soldiers' tracked vehicle has been located, but it was found submerged in water. While concerns about the soldiers’ well-being have been raised, the Lithuanian Army has stated there is no evidence to support reports of their deaths. NATO's chief, Mark Rutte, mentioned he received information regarding their potential fatalities but did not elaborate further.

In response to the situation, the Lithuanian Army has mobilized search teams that include local and foreign troops, helicopters, as well as state border guards. “A possible scene has now been identified,” the military communicated on Wednesday, and emergency responders are prepared to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.

Lithuania, a NATO and EU member, hosts over 1,000 American troops on a rotational basis. Lieutenant General Charles Costanza, the commanding general of V Corps, expressed gratitude towards Lithuanian forces for their prompt response in the search operation. The situation remains dire as the search continues for the missing soldiers.
