The inquest revealed that Zhihan and his mother, Xianhong Huang, had been in Ireland for just twelve days prior to the incident. Witness Marion Tourgon recounted observing the boy slip, stating, “He was trying to grasp the grass with his hands to pull himself up.” Emergency services launched a major search operation; however, it took several days for Zhihan's body to be found by a local fisherman. The coroner confirmed that he died from multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a fall, emphasizing the quickness of his passing.

Addressing the grieving family, Clare County Coroner Isobel O'Dea expressed her sympathies, underlining the distressing nature of the incident. This accident is particularly significant as it marks the second fall at the Cliffs of Moher within a three-month span, prompting local authorities to evaluate safety measures at the popular tourist destination. Since then, portions of the trail have faced closures in an effort to prevent further tragedies.
