The 85-year-old Motown legend, noted for his pioneering contributions to music, is facing serious allegations from four anonymous plaintiffs, identified as Jane Does 1, 2, 3, and 4, who are suing him for $50 million in a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The allegations detail incidents of sexual assault, sexual battery, false imprisonment, negligence, and gender-based violence, with claims dating back to 2006.
The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiffs, all former employees, were subjected to abusive behavior and unsafe working conditions while on the job. They describe a pervasive and hostile work environment allegedly cultivated by both Robinson and his wife, Frances, who is also named in the suit. The women, all of Hispanic descent, reported that they earned below minimum wage during their employment.
According to their lawyer, John Harris, Robinson's status and influence created a power dynamic that left the women feeling vulnerable and powerless. The allegations state that Robinson summoned the women to secluded locations, and the defendants allegedly employed threats and physical barriers during the purported assaults.
Incidents reportedly took place at Robinson’s residences in Chatsworth and Bell Canyon, as well as Las Vegas, with allegations ranging from sexual assault in a designated "blue bedroom" to incidents in the laundry room. The plaintiffs allege they were subjected to a grueling work schedule, often working 10-hour days without proper compensation, which included a lack of overtime pay and holiday rates.
Despite the seriousness of these allegations, no criminal charges or police reports have been filed against Robinson. Neither he nor his representatives have publicly commented on the lawsuit, which continues to raise discussions around sexual misconduct in the workplace.
As this high-profile case unfolds, reactions and updates from both the public and legal representatives will be closely monitored.
