Trump arrives in Dublin for first official meeting

US President Donald Trump landed in Dublin on Wednesday, marking the start of a two‑day trip to Ireland that includes a courtesy call at Áras an Uachtaráin and a planned meeting with the Irish prime minister, Micheál Martin.

At the presidential residence he was received by President Catherine Connolly, who has been a vocal critic of U.S. policies in Gaza. The brief encounter was expected to touch on the Middle East, although Connolly’s aides urged her to press Trump on the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict.

Security measures were in place from the moment Trump touched down – one of the biggest operational efforts the country has staged – as thousands lined up in Dublin and Doonbeg to show support and to protest at the same time.

Beyond politics, Trump is set to attend the Irish Open at his Trump International Golf Links in County Clare, where he has already promised to watch top golfers such as Rory McIlroy.

While the president’s visit is filled with sporting pride, the backdrop of civic unrest and global political tension adds an unexpected layer to the former leader’s Irish itinerary.
