Trump launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to steer AI policy
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new government taskforce, the ‘Super Intelligence Force’, designed to keep the United States at the forefront of artificial‑intelligence development and oversee the technology’s safety and public engagement.
The initiative will be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton and will bring together federal agencies, private sector companies, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and consumer groups. It is set to report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Simultaneously, Trump signed an executive order renaming AI as “Super Intelligence.” The new terminology must be used in all federal correspondence, websites and reports, and the phrase may overwrite any reference to artificial intelligence.
The order follows a “morally binding” pact signed by tech leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX and Google, in which they agreed to self‑regulate certain high‑risk AI applications. Trump has repeatedly dismissed calls for stronger oversight, preferring to leave regulation largely in the hands of industry.
Tech community reactions are mixed. Some experts say the rebranding risks confusion, as “Super Intelligence” implies more advanced systems, while figures like Elon Musk have already adopted the new terminology for their own projects, re‑naming SpaceXAI as “SpaceXSI.”
The launch of the Super Intelligence Force marks a significant shift in U.S. AI policy, signalling an intention to align global governance with the president’s vision of a future dominated by advanced intelligence systems.
