A son of film director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder after the couple were found dead in their Los Angeles home.

The Los Angeles Police Department said on Monday that Nick Reiner, 32, had been arrested and that he was in custody with no bail.

The deceased couple's 28-year-old daughter, Romy, discovered her parents in their home with multiple stab wounds on Sunday, according to sources reported by CBS News.

Emergency services were summoned to provide medical aid at the Reiners' Brentwood, California, residence around 3:38 PM local time. The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele, 68, dead at the scene.

Police arrested Nick Reiner several hours later, at approximately 9:15 PM local time. Investigators have not disclosed a motive, and the inquiry is ongoing.

Nick Reiner has previously spoken about his struggles with addiction and homelessness, which inspired the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, made with his father in 2015.

Rob Reiner has directed numerous iconic films, including When Harry Met Sally and This is Spinal Tap, and is also known for his political activism and support for progressive causes. His wife Michele was a producer and founder of a photography agency.

The Reiners' deaths prompted a wave of reactions from friends and public figures, including comments from President Trump, who controversially linked their deaths to Rob's outspoken criticism of him, stirring further controversy in the wake of the tragedy.

As the investigation unfolds, a security presence remains outside the Reiners' residence, a notable location in a lavish neighborhood frequented by celebrities.
