A 68-year-old British man, Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, was shot and killed during a robbery attempt in Tema, Ghana, as he tried to prevent thieves from stealing his phone. The incident occurred at a local drinking spot, leading to his death after being transported to the hospital.
Local authorities are currently searching for the shooter, believed to be one among a group of six suspects who fled the scene on motorbikes. A spent 9mm bullet shell was recovered, and the police have begun interviewing witnesses as part of their investigation.
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing support to the victim's family, while the police have stated that efforts are underway to officially inform the British Embassy of the national's death. Despite raising security concerns, a police spokesperson noted that gun violence in Tema is uncommon.
