OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A basketball player at a junior college in Oklahoma has tragically passed away following an injury sustained during a game. Ethan Dietz, a sophomore at Connors State College, died on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the school. The injury occurred in the second half of a game played this past Saturday in Texas. Although specific details regarding the nature of the injury were not disclosed, initial reports indicate that it may have involved a head injury.

The college expressed profound sorrow, stating, Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team. They extended their deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

In light of the tragedy, several basketball games set to take place have been postponed. Dietz, a 6-foot-8 forward hailing from Vilonia, Arkansas, was having a solid season, averaging 11 points per game in the early part of the season. He recorded eight points and four rebounds during the game on Saturday before his injury.

A vigil has been planned for December 1 at Connors State College's campus in Warner, Oklahoma, to honor his memory and allow the community to come together in grief.
