SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A gunman in Louisiana killed eight children in domestic violence shootings at two different homes early Sunday, police in Shreveport said. This was the nation’s deadliest mass shooting in more than two years. This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen, said Chris Bordelon, spokesperson for the Shreveport Police Department. The victims ranged in age from one to about 14 years old, some of whom were related to the suspect. A total of 10 people were shot. The gunman later died after a chase with officers who fired at him after a car theft event while fleeing. Police have not released the suspect's name but confirmed he was an adult male. Officials are still gathering details at the crime scenes south of downtown Shreveport, involving two houses and a third location. This incident marks the deadliest mass shooting since eight people were killed in a suburban Chicago shooting in January 2024, according to statistics compiled by the Associated Press. I just don’t know what to say, my heart is just taken aback,” said Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith. Mayor Tom Arceneaux described it as potentially the worst tragedy the city has ever faced, emphasizing the deep sorrow felt by the community. Louisiana State Police have been called to investigate the case further.
