The Shooting
Zolani Tete, the former WBO bantamweight and IBF super‑flyweight champion, was gunned down outside his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, on Friday. A young woman who was with him was also shot and is currently hospitalized. Two armed suspects emerged from a vehicle in balaclavas and fired a barrage of shots at Tete and a 27‑year‑old female passenger while he waited for the gate to open.
Legal Proceedings
A 22‑year‑old male suspect was arrested Saturday and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, facing charges of murder and attempted murder. The remaining suspects were detained on Sunday and will be due in court on Tuesday; they have been charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, though it remains unclear whether they will also face murder charges.
