In a disturbing turn of events, Argentinian authorities have announced that three people have been charged in connection with the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne. The pop sensation tragically died on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires.

According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office, one individual who was with Payne at the time faces charges for abandoning a person followed by death, as well as supplying and facilitating drugs. In addition, a hotel employee and another individual have also been charged with the supply of illicit substances. The identities of those arrested have not been disclosed.

Payne, who was just 31 and a father, became a household name after his rise to fame during the 2010s, notably through The X Factor and his time with One Direction. Following his death, investigators have scrutinized Payne's behavior and circumstances during his stay at the hotel. Reports indicate that police discovered various substances in his hotel room, alongside significant damage to furniture and fixtures.

Emergency services were alerted twice regarding a guest who struggled with excessive drug and alcohol use and was creating a disturbance in his accommodation. Authorities revealed on Thursday that toxicology tests indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne's system. A post-mortem examination classified his cause of death as "multiple trauma" and "internal and external haemorrhage" stemming from the fall.

The investigation suggests that Payne may have fallen while semi-conscious, dismissing the possibility that it was a deliberate act. In addition to raids conducted at multiple residences in Buenos Aires, law enforcement continues examining a damaged laptop and other devices connected to the case. So far, they have reviewed over 800 hours of video footage from hotel security cameras and public areas, gathering testimonies from hotel personnel, family, and medical professionals.

Payne's remains were released to his family on Wednesday, enabling their repatriation to the UK. In the wake of his passing, heartfelt tributes have poured in from various figures, including his former partner Cheryl, bandmates from One Direction, and music industry icon Simon Cowell. The remaining members of One Direction expressed their profound grief, highlighting cherished memories shared with him, while thousands of fans commemorated his life at memorials throughout the UK and beyond.
