DONETSK REGION, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian glide bomb struck the village of Yarova in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday morning while residents queued to collect their monthly pensions. The explosion resulted in the deaths of at least 24 individuals and left 19 injured, according to the Ukraine Emergency Service.

In light of the intensifying airstrikes in Ukraine, Poland's armed forces were placed on heightened alert during the night of Tuesday into Wednesday. The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces stated that all necessary security procedures had been activated to safeguard the country’s airspace.

The tragic bomb strike occurred around 11 a.m., with Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin reporting that 23 of the deceased victims were pensioners. Many locals, including Hennadii Trush who lost his wife in the attack, described the horror of the scene, emphasizing that the strike directly hit the center of the village, unlike previous attacks that usually targeted the outskirts.

Currently, over 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have reportedly perished in the ongoing war, highlighting the devastating impact of the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the recent violence, calling it an act of 'frank brutality' and urging the international community to respond with stronger economic measures against Russia.

As the situation escalates, U.S. and European officials are contemplating new sanctions and tariffs aimed at exerting additional pressure on the Kremlin. Meanwhile, the humanitarian impact of such attacks continues to unfold, as villagers remain fearful and uncertain about their futures.
