In a troubling escalation, Kyiv found itself under a heavy night attack from Russian drones, with local officials confirming at least 10 injuries and widespread fires throughout the city. Authorities have noted that debris from the drones struck a residential structure in the Shevchenkivskyi district, intensifying fears among the residents. Unverified videos circulating on social media depict fireballs lighting up the night sky, signaling the ferocity of the assault as air defense units worked to intercept the incoming threats.
This latest incident follows what Ukraine's military described as the most significant aerial bombardment in recent months, with over 728 drones and 13 cruise or ballistic missiles targeting various cities across the nation in waves. In the early Thursday hours, officials reported that Russian drone strikes were affecting six districts of Kyiv, triggering alarms and prompting urgent safety advisories.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, communicated via Telegram that numerous structures—including residential areas, vehicles, and warehouses—were ablaze in the city. He urged Kyiv’s residents to remain in shelters pending an all-clear signal from air raid sirens.
Meanwhile, the situation outside of Kyiv remains uncertain, as the Ukrainian Air Force indicated potential threats from Russian drones in several other areas. Russia’s military has yet to issue any statements regarding the anticipated attacks.
In related news, the Ukrainian emergency services reported fatalities from a Russian air strike in the nearby town of Kostiantynivka, with three individuals confirmed dead, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by communities near the front lines. Additionally, it was reported late Wednesday that the U.S. has resumed the shipment of certain weapons to Ukraine, having recently paused important military supplies. This situation continues to evolve as the conflict intensifies, having started with Russia's invasion in February 2022.
