Emergency responders engaged in a frantic search and rescue operation after receiving a distress call early in the afternoon. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reported that three individuals were successfully rescued from the frigid waters of the Deschutes River and subsequently transported to a local hospital with injuries. Sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

As efforts to locate the remaining two missing individuals continue, emergency responders utilized drones to aid their search close to Dillon Falls. Operations are set to resume on Sunday, following a temporary halt overnight.

Dillon Falls features a 15-foot (approximately 4.5 meters) descent which transforms into turbulent rapids, described by Visit Central Oregon as a "step ladder-like pattern." It’s a well-known destination for adventure seekers, particularly during the summer when the river draws in crowds for boating, kayaking, and tubing activities, coupled with its rich fishing grounds for trout and salmon.

Local law enforcement and fire departments responded promptly to 911 calls received around 3:00 PM PDT (21:00 BST). The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed as authorities work to inform their families.
