Pilot Arrested at Jakarta Airport After 70,000 Ecstasy Pills Discovered
CCTV footage released on Monday caught a Malaysian pilot attempting to smuggle 70,000 ecstasy pills in a silver suitcase at Jakarta’s Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport.
Airport officers seized several bags of the drugs—combining for a weight of roughly 26 kilograms—and placed them in a security as they processed the routine check‑in. The stash’s quantity equates to about 70,000 individual pills.
The pilot told authorities that he had received the equivalent of £9,000 for the operation, highlighting the lucrative, yet dangerous, nature of drug trafficking in Southeast Asia. He also admitted he was under the influence when he was arrested.
Indonesian officials confirmed the pilot’s Malaysian nationality and said the seizure would be forwarded to relevant investigative agencies for further legal action. The incident is part of a broader strategy to increase vigilance at key international transit points in the region.
