Massive Snake Rescue in Sydney: 102 Venomous Snakes Discovered in Backyard
In an astonishing incident, over a hundred venomous snakes, including numerous baby red-bellied black snakes, were rescued from a home in Sydney.
A remarkable rescue operation unfolded in Sydney when 102 venomous snakes, predominantly red-bellied black snakes, were found in a residential backyard mulch pile. Reptile handler Cory Kerewaro reported that the operation was sparked by a dog bite from one of the snakes at the property. Upon investigation, Kerewaro’s colleague stumbled upon a staggering number of snakes, including five adults and 97 hatchlings. Red-bellied black snakes are prevalent in Australia but notably harmless to humans, with no recorded fatalities. This incident, happening near Boxing Day, marked a record for snake handlers who typically manage much smaller numbers of reptile rescues. Following proper protocol, the snakes will be quarantined and released into a national park as temperatures drop, ensuring a safe environment away from human activity.
