Massive torrential rains have sweated through South Korea's Gyeongsang province, unleashing a deadly landslide in the southeastern city of Geoje.
The landslide buried the first floor of an apartment building, forcing rescuers to pull out three people; one died and two were injured.
Geoje recorded 124.5 mm of rain in a single hour and more than 400 mm overnight, the heaviest in the city’s records since 1972.
Social media posts show cars submerged in flooded streets, while officials have closed tourist attractions and suspended bus and waste‑collection services.
The rain comes amid a series of powerful typhoons across China, Japan and the Philippines, linked to a strong El Niño that is intensifying the region’s storm activity this year.
Officials advised residents on Sunday to avoid driving, stay away from riverbanks and move to safer areas when conditions worsen.
