While in Taipei, President Lai held a press conference alongside TSMC CEO C.C. Wei to discuss the company's plans to enlarge its operations in Arizona, with a focus on producing chips for artificial intelligence. The investment will bring TSMC’s total commitment in the U.S. to $165 billion, significantly increasing its presence as pressure mounts from the U.S. to reduce reliance on Taiwanese semiconductor production due to geopolitical tensions with China.

Lai presented a positive perspective, asserting that TSMC's initiatives historically lead to greater strength for the company and more opportunities for Taiwanese businesses in the international market. He expressed confidence that Taiwan could successfully expand its influence across the Pacific, and emphasized the importance of the chip industry as a key element of Taiwan's economy and security amidst ongoing threats from China.
