The son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, is facing serious allegations that have surfaced during a police inquiry. As reported by Oslo authorities, Høiby is under suspicion for three counts of rape, alongside 23 other criminal offences, as the investigation transitions to the prosecutorial phase.
Høiby, who has been arrested on multiple occasions—specifically in August, September, and November—has indicated through his lawyer that he takes these accusations seriously but refutes guilt concerning the majority of them, especially regarding the sexual violence allegations.
Despite lacking both a royal title and formal royal duties, Høiby remains a prominent figure due to his relation to Norway's future monarch. The allegations against him emerged after his first arrest on August 4, 2024, which initially related to an assault claim.
The police underscored the magnitude of their investigation, which has included several witness interviews, searches of various locations, and analysis of extensive digital evidence. According to the police attorney, Andreas Kruszewski, the investigation prompted multiple inquiries into Høiby, who was reported to have cooperated throughout the process.
The array of offences Høiby faces includes four occurrences of sexual misconduct, one instance of abusive behavior in a close relationship, and two counts involving physical harm. Although the police have dismissed some allegations of sexual misconduct due to limitations and evidentiary challenges, the case is complex, revealing a concerning scale of accusations.
Kruzewski noted that the number of alleged victims involved is significant, but he declined to provide precise details. Moreover, the Royal House of Norway has confirmed its awareness of the legal proceedings, emphasizing that no further comment would be available until the justice system has concluded its review.
