Gloria Steinem: Women’s Rights Icon Dies at 92
Gloria Steinem, the celebrated American feminist and journalism pioneer, died Wednesday at the age of 92.
Her career, spanning more than six decades, began in the 1960s when she exposed the harsh conditions of New York City’s Playboy Club during her undercover stint as a Playboy bunny. From that moment she was one of the most prominent voices for women’s rights, confronting sexism and harassment throughout her work.
Steinem’s legacy includes co‑foundeding The Feminists, championing the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, and inspiring generations of activists on issues from abortion rights to gender equality.
Although the Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, Steinem’s influence remains a cornerstone of ongoing feminist progress.
She never retired from advocacy and continued fighting for justice until her final months.
Her foundation confirmed her death and remembered that her spirit will live on in the movement she helped build.
