In brief

LaGuardia Airport in New York is currently closed following a collision between an Air Canada Express plane and a ground vehicle operated by the Port Authority. The Federal Aviation Administration has enacted a ground stop, indicating further delays could occur. The incident involved a CRJ 900 aircraft with approximately 70-90 passengers onboard, which landed from Montreal and was slowing down at the time of the accident. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

New York's LaGuardia airport has been closed until further notice after an Air Canada Express plane and ground vehicle collided.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for the airport late on Sunday night and said there was a high likelihood the order would be extended.

CBS News, the BBC US partner, reported the plane was coming in from Montreal and landed. It slowed down to about 24mph when it collided with a vehicle from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport.

The plane – a smaller model CRJ 900 that had about 70-90 people on board – suffered significant damage.

There have been no reported injuries at this stage.
