Flash Flood Destroys Homes and Bridges in Central Nepal

A sudden flash flood, caused by a landslide upstream on the Budhi Gandaki River, has hit the Gorkha district in Central Nepal. The torrent swept away dozens of houses, four bridges and damaged a camp at a local hydropower project.

The Nepalese Army has rescued 49 people from the flood‑affected areas, while five remain missing. Local authorities are continuing search and rescue operations and evaluating damage.

This water‑related disaster follows a catastrophic flood and landslides that struck Nepal’s border towns with Tibet two months ago, leaving thousands dead, missing and with critical energy infrastructure heavily damaged.

Continued risks of flooding, landslides and infrastructure collapse remain high as the region enters the monsoon season. Communities and officials face a daunting rebuilding effort amid the widespread devastation.
