Fans of the 2018 film “Crazy Rich Asians” will be delighted to learn that the hit movie’s leading stars will reprise their roles in a brand‑new HBO television series.
The eight‑episode show picks up after the film's finale, with Constance Wu back as Rachel Chu and Henry Golding as Nick Young.
Ronny Chieng returns as Eddie, while Oscar‑winning actress Michelle Yeoh joins the cast in a recurring role as Nick’s mother Eleanor.
Series writer and original film co‑writer Adele Lim, now showrunner, described the project as “a ‘Crazy Rich’ family reunion” and said the writers’ room is humming.
Adapted from Kevin Kwan’s best‑selling books, the original film topped the U.S. box office and earned two Golden Globe nominations.
Constance, Henry, Ronny and Michelle will serve as global superstars, while director Jon M. Chu and showrunner Adele Lim will produce the series with HBO and Warner Bros Television.
Production is scheduled to begin next year, following Warner Bros’ recent £110bn merger with Paramount Skydance, which has increased collaboration between Hollywood studios.
