In a heartwarming tale from the hilly village of Piplodi in Rajasthan, farmer Mor Singh, 60, has garnered attention for his extraordinary gesture of converting his home into a school. Following the destructive rains that severely damaged the local school, Mor Singh opened his two-room residence to accommodate 50-60 students.
Mor Singh never attended school himself, but motivated by the well-being of the children, he made a quick decision to offer his house for their education after a classroom roof collapse led to the tragic deaths of seven children on July 25. In recognition of his act of kindness, the state government awarded him 200,000 rupees ($2,266).
Despite the challenges of living in a bamboo-and-tarpaulin shack with his family, which includes a two-year-old grandson, Singh believes his sacrifice is worthwhile. 'If I had not taken that quick decision, many children would have dropped out,' he said, emphasizing the need for education in his community, which lacks adequate infrastructure.
Piplodi has been declared a 'model village' by the state government, opening doors for further development, including a new school, playground, and healthcare center. Singh's selfless actions have turned him into a local hero, with community members expressing their gratitude for his unwavering commitment to education.
