Burkina Faso has announced the prevention of a plot to assassinate its military leader, Capt Ibrahim Traoré, in a dramatic twist aimed at maintaining stability in the West African nation. Following a late-night televised address, Security Minister Mahamadou Sana divulged that the plan was attributed to Lt Col Paul Henri Damiba, the military officer who was ousted by Traoré in September 2022.

The intelligence services reportedly intercepted this operation shortly before it was to be executed, with the plotters intending to assassinate Traoré and subsequently target various senior military and civilian personalities. Allegations suggest that financial support for the conspiracy might have originated from neighboring Côte d'Ivoire, a claim that has not yet been commented on by officials in either country.
