Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has been charged with a staggering 32 offences, including four counts of rape. The allegations, brought forth by a prosecutor, detail incidents of abuse towards a former partner and violations of restraining orders with regards to another former partner.

Born before his mother’s marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, who is next in line for the throne, the 28-year-old is staunchly defending himself against the most severe claims. His attorney, Petar Sekulic, has indicated that Høiby plans to plead guilty to certain lesser charges when the trial commences. If convicted of the serious charges, he could potentially face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

According to prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø, Høiby has also been charged with filming multiple women’s genitals without their knowledge or consent. Despite the seriousness of the claims, Høiby maintains his innocence regarding rape and domestic violence allegations. The reported incidents of rape are alleged to have occurred between 2018 and 2024, including one purportedly taking place after his arrest.

Høiby was taken into custody three times last year, specifically in August, September, and November, following an ongoing investigation that began with his arrest on suspicion of assault. In June, the police announced he was being investigated for three rapes along with 23 other offences.

The trial is anticipated to commence in January and is expected to span about six weeks.
