In brief
Amid a 14-hour journey, a couple's vacation plans took a tragic turn as they were asked to sit beside a woman's body after she passed away mid-flight, leading to a deeply unsettling experience.
An Australian couple's idyllic journey to Venice turned somber when they were unexpectedly placed next to a deceased passenger during a long-haul Qatar Airways flight. The couple, Mitchell Ring and his wife Jennifer Colin, were occupying a row of seats on a flight from Melbourne to Doha when tragedy struck roughly ten hours into their journey. The ordeal began when a fellow passenger collapsed. Despite the flight attendants' prompt efforts to administer aid, the woman could not be revived. Fellow traveler, Mr. Ring recounted the scene on the Australian news program "A Current Affair" on Channel 9, expressing how distressing it was to witness the frantic attempts to save a life come to an end.Initially, the crew attempted to transport the body to business class using a wheelchair, but the deceased passenger was unable to be maneuvered through the aisle. Consequently, staff moved the corpse to an adjacent seat in the couple's row, and asked Mr. Ring to shift to a different seat while placing the body in the one he had just vacated.Visibly shaken, Jennifer Colin conveyed her emotional struggle with the distressing situation, particularly as someone wary of flying. In a further attempt to distance herself from the grim scene, she moved to another row. Upon arrival in Doha, paramedics instructed the couple to remain seated while they handled the body, an experience they described as profoundly unsettling.Despite the traumatic experience, the couple noted a lack of support from Qatar Airways post-incident. The airline later released a statement indicating that they had reached out to the passengers involved to discuss their concerns and offer assistance.
